Spencer Smith

Spencer Smith is a filmmaker and writer based in Des Moines, Iowa. At an early age Spencer had a fascination and love for telling stories, from writing a story in the 2nd grade about an art easel that comes to life, to turning filmmaking into his career. At his core he believes in telling stories be it on the page or through the image. He studied English and Cinematic Arts at the University of Iowa. College is where he learned to hone his technical ability but life is what taught him how to tell stories. 

His work has been featured on PBS’ Iowa Film Lounge, as well as various film festivals throughout the midwest, and in 2022 received a Greenlight Grant from the state of Iowa for his upcoming documentary “Who Killed Diane?”

From Narrative, documentary, commercial work, to music videos; the format doesn’t matter. Spencer is first and foremost interested in telling a compelling story.
